Our History

A proud past and winning future…

In 1923, Greensborough was a patch-work of picturesque farms and home to a forging community around the banks of the Plenty River.

Greensborough Tennis Club began life with a humble asphalt court near where court one is located today. A shed kept the net in good order, stored at the end of a days’ play. In 1928 an new two asphalt courts were laid where courts two and three now stand and a small timber pavilion was added looking east. On the banks of the river, nestled between the tall trees and green hills it would have certainly been a beautiful place to play tennis.

By the mid-1930’s Greensborough Tennis Club, now a marque club of the district was host to the highly anticipated Easter Tournament, a highlight on the district’s tennis calendar for the next twenty years.

Today with four superb synthetic clay courts under lights, two En Tout Cas courts “over the bridge”and strong representation in local and State competition, Greensborough Tennis Club is enjoying something of a renaissance.

Greensborough Tennis Club is a family club, whether you are new to tennis, a seasoned competitor or simply play for the love of the game, you are welcome at Greensborough.
